Rush, Newspeak and Fascism: An exegesis: Projecting Fascism

Rush, Newspeak and Fascism: An exegesis: I: Projecting Fascism

Most people don't understand propaganda. Even good propaganda depends upon repetition of its point. We used to say in the news business that it took at least seven repetitions before people really began to remember the topic or the product or the name. Hitler was a master of propaganda and his efforts to cast groups of people, jews, gays, the handicapped, gypsies, as bad by constant repetition of slogan-type charges helped set the stage for the holocaust.

Limbaugh and his ilk are definite propagandists in all the meanings of the word. He doesn't talk facts, he talks slogans. He changes the meanings of words and then repeats them and repeats them until they become meaningless. After just a few doses of this bilge, I determined years ago that it was a waste of my time to listen to him since I'm well enough educated in the methods of propaganda that I can see right through most of what he says and it's sickening. Unfortunately, most people won't look at it.

This is a good discussion of what he does.

I can't argue with you about Limbaugh & propaganda! He's a master of it, isn't he?

But he's got a big audience, and big ratings, so he'll be around until he decides to retire. The left has tried to launch liberal talk shows, and none of them ever found an audience.

I catch some of Limbaughs show once-in-a-while when I'm driving somewhere, and some of his parodies are hilarious.

I don't listen to Limbaugh any more. He served a very good purpose in the early years as the single lonely conservative voice in liberal dominated media. He was a trail blazer in that regard and deserves a lot of credit for that.

But he has become too shrill and bombastic now for my taste. There are better and more reasonable
conservative voices out there now.

Are there any liberal propagandists at all out there Chuck?:)

Limbaugh really is a big fat idiot; unfortunately, he sounds good at what he's doing, so the undereducated grasp onto his words as gospel. I can't listen to more than two minutes of his filth before reaching for the barf bag. And I agree with you; Josep Goebbels would be proud of him.
