The Village Voice: Nation: Liberty Beat: Bob Barr vs. the FBI by Nat Hentoff

The Village Voice: Nation: Liberty Beat: Bob Barr vs. the FBI by Nat Hentoff

An interesting followup to my August piece on dangers to civil liberties. In this case, Hentoff, a liberal spokesman, is talking about the stance of a libertarian against what is going on in Washington. I think it is time the Bush defenders get rid of their "you hate Bush" denial and start to look at the real issues that we face in this country.

But the Democrats are powered by their hatred for Bush - what else do they have?

Don't you read, Eric? I posted what there is against Bush on my web site. Quit lying by saying we "hate" Bush. That's just a Rush Limbaugh slogan.

So Chuck, are you of the opinion that John Kerry inspires Democrats?

Or am I correct that the Democrats just want anybody but Bush?

Isn't that just pure hatred of Bush?

Eric, I was a charter member of the ABB club a long time back, about the time he misplayed what he was doing in Afghanistan and before the Iraqi thing. I think it started with his faith-based initiative. But that doesn't mean I hate him; all it means is that I disagree with the course he has charted for this country. Iraq and subsequent events have just confirmed that. I think he is leading this country on a course that is very dangerous to my children and grandchildren. And believe it or not it has nothing to do with the Democrats. They agree with me, perhaps, but I think I was here first. And it does not have an emotional foundation, although after listening to people like you and Bedrock has produced disgust because you are so blinded by your own hate you cannot see what is going on. Saying I or others who think as I do hate Bush is just floating down a river in Egypt. It is a good way to avoid looking at what is going on in this country. It is de nile.
